Indy 500 & Speedway Transportation

The Indianapolis Motor Speedway is the highest-capacity sports venue on earth, and race day is a logistics event, not a drive. We plan every run around the closures.

Limo Service Indianapolis runs chauffeured transportation to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway -- in Speedway, Indiana, about six miles west of downtown -- for the Indy 500 and every race weekend, staging outside the Georgetown Road and 16th Street closure ring and timing the exit around the post-race lot release. The 110th Indianapolis 500 runs Sunday, May 24, 2026.

What closes on race day, and when

The Indianapolis Motor Speedway seats 257,325 permanent spectators around a 2.5-mile oval -- the largest single-day sporting crowd on earth. On race morning the roads around it become a controlled-access maze on a predictable script:

  • Georgetown Road closes south of 25th Street at 5:00 AM and stays shut until roughly an hour after the race ends.
  • 16th Street closes between Olin Avenue and the roundabout from about noon through the end of the race.
  • Speedway lots are not released until pedestrian traffic clears -- up to an hour after the checkered flag.

Why we stage outside the ring

The instinct is to be dropped at the gate -- but on race day that gate is inside a closed ring and the curb is gridlocked. We stage at a fixed rally point outside the closure ring, time the drop so the walk-in is manageable, and hold a meet point for the exit that is not buried in the post-race release. That is the difference between leaving when you want and sitting in a lot for ninety minutes. The full playbook is in our Indy 500 race-day transport guide.

Getting there from downtown

From downtown the free-flow drive is under 20 minutes; on race morning, plan for roughly double and aim to arrive far earlier than feels necessary. See the downtown-to-Speedway route guide for timing, and size your vehicle with the free Event Transport Planner, which bakes a four-hour arrival lead and a post-race exit window into the Indy 500 plan automatically.

Frequently asked questions

The 110th running of the Indianapolis 500 is Sunday, May 24, 2026, with the green flag around midday. Race Weekend transportation books out months in advance.

QHow do you get to the Speedway with the roads closed?

We stage at a fixed rally point outside the Georgetown Road and 16th Street closure ring, drop close enough for a manageable walk-in, and hold a separate meet point for the exit so you avoid the post-race lot release.

For a small party, a luxury SUV; for larger groups, a Sprinter, mini-coach, or motorcoach. Our free planner sizes the vehicle for your headcount, including multi-vehicle splits for big groups.
